Fed: Unions reject employer redundancy doom prediction
Unions have rejected employer claims that increasing redundancy payments would preventstruggling businesses from getting back on their feet.
The Australian Industry Group has told the Australian Industrial Relations Commissionfull-time employment would fall and struggling businesses would fail if the ACTU succeedsin having redundancy pay increased.
But ANDREW WATSON, the ACTU's principal advocate in the national Redundancy Test Case, says the employer body's warnings are exaggerated.
Mr WATSON says higher payments being made in New South Wales have no adverse impact on businesses.
The ACTU wants the maximum severance pay doubled to 16 weeks' pay for staff with morethan six years' of service.
It also seeks redundancy entitlements for casual employees who have been with the companymore than 12 months.
